Packers receive 5 ESPY nominations

Posted by Mike Spofford on June 28, 2011 – 9:50 am

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has received two of the Green Bay Packers’ five ESPY nominations that have put the Super Bowl XLV champions up for the annual awards handed out by ESPN.

Rodgers is nominated for both Best NFL Player and Best Male Athlete. In the Best NFL Player category, one of the players he’s up against is teammate Clay Matthews. The other three in that category are New England QB Tom Brady, Houston RB Arian Foster and Pittsburgh S Troy Polamalu.

In the best male athlete category, the other nominees are Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks, tennis star Rafael Nadal, and NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy has been nominated in the category of Best Coach/Manager. He’s up against University of Connecticut men’s basketball coach Jim Calhoun, Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle, Auburn football coach Gene Chizik, and Virginia la crosse coach Dom Starsia.

Finally, the Packers are a nominee in the category of Best Team. The other nominees are Auburn football, the Boston Bruins, the Dallas Mavericks, the San Francisco Giants, and Texas A&M women’s basketball.

Online voting is underway, and fans will determine the winners by voting online at ESPN.com/espys, facebook.com/ESPN, and on ESPN Mobile Web at http://espn.mobi. Voting will run through 10:59 p.m. CT on July 9 for most categories. The winners will be announced during The 2011 ESPYs, televised live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 13, at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN.

aaron rodgers as far as I’m concerned is that he is the best Quarterback and believe he will surpass Farve in his career and far better than the golden boy( Tom Brady) and you do it all and even throw your body in the help the team score and you will do it again this year!!!!

Yes, Aaron Rodgers is an amazing quarterback and deserve all those rewards. Just hope he can do as well next year… without all the head injuries. Don’t want Muhammad Ali out there as quarterback.

Go Pack! I’m still riding the high since the Superbowl. Bumped into a guy with a Steelers lanyard the other day. He took a look at mine and gave me a scowl I’ll never forget! My best to all the players on the roster, they all deserve recognition.

I agree with everyone. I have been a Packers fan since the Seventies and he is one of the best overall Querterbacks i have seen. He’s alot better than Farve and Brady. With Rogers at the Helm, we will be a great Team for a very long time. GO PACK GO.

This continues to bring magic back to Titletown. Our little cousins to the south received two nominations. (what? gotta have a little smack!;) ) I am proud to be an owner, and thrilled to have watched this team win against such overwhelming odds. No Packer team in our history has done so much with so little chance!!! Starr had the best team around him, Favre played with and made others better than they were. This was the first time we had a team put it together! Aweosme
