Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy confirmed in his post-practice press conference that defensive end Mike Neal did, in fact, sustain a left knee injury in the early stages of Tuesday’s training camp practice at Ray Nitschke Field. Neal’s feet tangled while working against a blocking bag in a defensive line drill, causing him to fall awkwardly. He immediately began clutching his left knee.
“Tomorrow will tell more of the story,” McCarthy said, referring to further medical evaluation that will determine whether Neal undergoes an MRI scan.
Neal left the field under his own power but with limp. He did not return to the practice field.
“You worry any time any of your players go down and falls. It makes you nervous. As far as the defensive line, we have healthy competition. We were expecting big things from Mike as a contributor this year,” McCarthy said.
