Cobb, Matthews, Rodgers nominated for Week 1 awards

Posted by Duke Bobber on September 13, 2011 – 10:20 am

Cobb, Matthews, RodgersGreen Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb, LB Clay Matthews, and QB Aaron Rodgers were nominated for various Week 1 honors. Fan voting will determine the winner of each award.

Cobb is a finalist for Pepsi NFL Rookie Of The Week honors. Cobb had two catches for 35 yards and one touchdown, one punt return for five yards and two kickoff returns for 135 yards and a touchdown. His kickoff return score went for an NFL record-tying 108-yards and gave the Packers a 15 point third quarter lead en route to a 42-34 victory over the New Orleans Saints.

Matthews is a finalist for the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week. After a pass interference call in the end zone gave the New Orleans Saints one last untimed down at the 1-yard line to possibly force overtime on the defending Super Bowl champions, Matthews led a surge through the Saints’ line of scrimmage to stuff rookie RB Mark Ingram and seal a Packers victory.

Rodgers is a finalist for FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week honors. Rodgers completed 27 of 35 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns in the Packers’ 42-34 win over the New Orleans Saints. All three of his scores came in the first quarter on consecutive possessions to begin the game, as the Packers raced out to an early lead that they would never relinquish.

I’m guessing Brady beats out Rodgers and Newton beats out Cobb, but hopefully that goal line stand can beat out the blocked punt, which it should. I don’t think Benson’s run has a shot at winning.

We are going to rock it out this year (as always). The Panthers don’t have a prayer, even with Cam Newton they are going down. This is going around all of the Panthers sites right now: http://bit.ly/mQBpvLQBpvL
    GO Packers!

I see it the same way as Chad, Brady should win, Cam edges out Cobb, but I don’t know how Clay gets the vote when it was the whole defensive line plus the middle Lb’s that stopped the Aints! I mean Raji & Pickett blew up that play! So media lets give it to who deserves it (the defensive line)

It’s going to be tough with all the teams in our division good this year— no off games— we have to stay healthy— Bears looked very good and the Lions are up and coming— and AP in Minn– tough year

Nice Cali, … Enjoyed the win, a little concerned about the defense giving up so much yardage and so many points. Pumped and feeling good about Sunday. Love to see the Pack run the ball down their throats with Starks and Grant. It’s highly unlikely that Cam Newton will have another game like he did last week for the rest of the season, so I see the Pack winning big.
As for pequeño cerebro, what an idiot. Every season there has to be one…
