2013 Pro Bowl voting underway

2013 Pro Bowl

It’s election season in the NFL. Fans can begin voting to select players for the 2013 Pro Bowl, the NFL’s annual All-Star Game. Voting is available online here: http://www.packers.com/fan-zone/pro-bowl-ballot-2013.html.

Balloting will conclude on Monday, December 17 following the conclusion of Monday Night Football (New York Jets at Tennessee Titans, ESPN, 7:30 pm (CT)).  The teams will be announced at 6 pm (CT) Wednesday, December 26 on NFL Network.

The 2013 Pro Bowl will be played on Sunday, January 27, 2013 and televised live on NBC at 6 pm (CT) from Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The AFC and NFC All-Star squads are based on the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches. Each group’s vote counts one-third toward determining the 43-man rosters that represent the American Football Conference and National Football Conference in the Pro Bowl. NFL players and coaches will cast their votes on December 20-21.

The NFL is the only sports league that combines voting by fans, coaches and players to determine its all-star teams. It was the first professional sports league to offer online all-star voting in 1995.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was the league’s top vote-getter last year, with 1,581,982 fan votes.

Does anybody know how they decide which players get on the ballot? I mean – Casey Hayward is tied for leading NFL in interceptions so far – but only Williams and Shields are on the CB-list. Cobb has been an important receiver, but is not on the WR-list, while Jennings is. Not to mention the fact that arguably the best special teams team in the league has no players on the ST list.

Why does the NFL limit our choices?

I was thinking the same thing. I think they have to be considered a starter, but if anyone in that secondary deserves to be in the pro bowl, especially rookies, he takes the cake.
