Six players earn game balls vs. Chicago

Posted by Mike Spofford on December 17, 2012 – 5:16 pm

Chicago game ball winners

The Packers coaching staff awarded game balls to a half dozen players following the 21-13 victory over Chicago that clinched the NFC North title for Green Bay.

On special teams, FB John Kuhn was the game-ball recipient.

On offense, QB Aaron Rodgers and WR James Jones earned game balls. Rodgers completed 23 of 36 passes for 291 yards with three TDs, all to Jones. Rodgers posted a 116.8 passer rating.

Jones enjoyed the first three-TD game of his career, catching five passes for 60 yards in all. Jones now has 12 TD receptions on the season, a total that leads the league and is his career high.

On defense, LBs Clay Matthews and Brad Jones, plus CB Sam Shields, all were awarded game balls.

Matthews, returning from a four-game injury absence, had two sacks to raise his team-leading total to 11. He also had two other tackles for loss and deflected a pass.

Jones led the team with eight total tackles, according to the press box statistics, and was involved on back-to-back run stops at the goal line in the third quarter. Jones also was credited with two passes defensed.

Shields engaged in a game-long physical battle with Bears WR Alshon Jeffery and ended up shutting the rookie out. Shields was credited with three passes defensed, and he also drew three offensive pass interference penalties on Jeffery, who did not have a catch in the game.

The ref’s should earn a game ball too, the moral majority and anti-Obama NFL Illumiati obviously want Jesus Christ superstar Rogers in the Superbowl Heulellueah!!!!

Is it just me or does everything that comes out of Troy Aikmans mouth on game days make your ears bleed. His comments during the Packer games are so bias, I can’t believe Fox puts up with it.

the refs?? If ur talking about the pass interference calls on jeffrey than u don’t know s#**, those were the right calls u can clearly c jeffrey extending his arms so quit being a sore looser and going on packers website.

I didn’t notice anything bad about Aikman.
When Shields got screwed on a call earlier, Aikman called out the ref.
Shields did have a bit of jersey on that last one….

Good to see Brad Jones get some recognition here… played a good game, his best ever at ILB.

    Shields was great.

Wish RYAN PICKETT would get more love. He deserves it.

No, Dan, it’s not just you. He will compliment a few of our pro-bowlers on certain plays, but his underlying disdain for the Pack is VERY OBVIOUS on any close calls by the officials. Joe Buck was talking about the Bears new positioning for the play-offs and you could just see him barely listening. He couldn’t wait to get back to his comments on the refs missing an interference call on us.

Wow Zach quack. That was the wierdest thing I read all day!

  14. By kas on Dec 17, 2012 | Reply

IMO, the best thing that happened to us was the missed call when Jeffery discarded Shields by his face mask. After McCarthy pointed that out to that official, he went on to call three offensive interference calls on Jeffery.

Why can’t we all get along ? If the NFL is for Aaron Rodgers why did they not send him back to the Super Bowl ? I understand that if it is not your team your not happy. To go so far as to say it is rigged well I think that is just B.S. As for Aikman yea I believe he is a Packer hater, we shut down the tv volume and turned on the local radio. There is a time delay but it is so much better than listening to Troy and Troy Aikman wantabe Joe Buck.

I agree about aikman. He hates the Pack and I don’t know why. When he played against the Packers he got every favorable call possible.

  19. By Yangstar on Dec 17, 2012 | Reply

Boohoo. Sure, Shields may have gotten away with one there at the end, but In fact, Jeffreys should have been called for a 4th PI on that last play because he first grabbed and pulled Shields facemask before Shields grabbed his jersey. Oh, but I guess Bears fans didn’t see that.

i agree, Troy is a Packer hater and Buck is a putz. How dreadful to listen to them ever! And for you Zach, you need to pull your bottom lip way up and over your head and stop making such ignorant comments. Great game Pack!

  22. By GOPACKGO4 on Dec 17, 2012 | Reply

Zach is just butt hurt. Troy Aikman is jealous on any Quarterback in the league that has any success, and Joe Buck hasn’t caught a ball in his life. Go Pack Freaking Go! SB BABY!

  23. By xmaan on Dec 17, 2012 | Reply

Zach, first there were about two b.s. offensive PI calls they didn’t make. One was obvious where #17 pulled on Casey’s face mask! Dude the missed calls were about even, as I see it. As for GB going to SB, may the best team win. I think it’d be awesome to see Brady vs Roger and Brady lose for 4th time, or Manning (Payton) vs Rogers…whoa!!! I think we could see Part II of ’97 or ’98 SB!!! Yes!!! I’d give 50% probability on that. I think Packers better bring the kitchen sink to beat these guys, but it’s not out of reach for the Pack. Tough, but not impossible. Zach, ‘Da Bears’ are a good team…just somewhat inconsistent…so, tell your team to get some more weapons…I always said, ‘defense may win championships, but they can’t be YOUR OFFENSE!’You stop the Bears’ defense, you stop the Bears.

    Zach 0,

Ignore the complaints about your attitude, spelling, and other negative comments. Few Packer fans cam appreciate how difficult it is for someone to get used to a brain transplant, because Packer fans rarely need one.

You will do fine. Be patient, and just let yourself get used to your new brain. Visit your local zoo every day. It is helpful to be among kindred spirits.

I listened to the game in China at 2 am in the morning on Monday, December 17, china time, where I am working for my company on assignment, near Beijing. For some reason the game pass only played the chicago announcers, but that was fun to hear them commiserate about their cubby bears. The only time I got nervous was on the punt shuffle pass – why do they do these crazy things? Well, I hope we roll up some points against the Titans and Vikings.

Not going to go too deep into this with you guys (total GB fan but it’s late and the whole thing is trivial) but I am glad other people have noticed the Aikman/Buck duo being GB haters. Have noticed for the last few years at this point with it gradually ramping up. I’m not going to try to reason why but it is something a few of my non-fan friends have also noticed.

A few weeks ago against the Vik’s, when Starks broke off that 25+ yards TD, neither Aikman nor Buck said anything during the play and even until 20 seconds after the play. Pretty sure the first comment was “and that was a total failure on the vikings defense.”. Whatever was said did not contain the words “Green Bay or Touchdown” I am sure.

  30. By Stan Perritt on Dec 17, 2012 | Reply

Aikman and Buck are the same with every and any game. Aikman believes he has more insight and is better than any QB playing today and looks down on them. Buck just thinks because he does baseball commentary that somehow he knows about football. Both know little about what the fans want to hear, a game called without bias. Both of these guys take away from the enjoyment of the game and should be simply removed.

Hate to disagree with you Ted, the question is not why Zack comes onto the Pack website to make stupid comments. The question is why he feels the need to go on ANY site to make childish and unfounded comments such as he does.

Announcers are trying to be as even-handed in their comments as possible. The only bias that I have noticed at times is which side of the ball an ex-player was on. It just makes sense that these folks are not going to say or do anything that may jeopardize their exalted positions.

Clay is making the defense machine run a lot smoother for sure… Take a way the fumble by Grant, the punt/pass fiasco, and a couple of missed field goals, the Pack would of dominated the score… They tend to make it too interesting some times… They won, they are the NFC North Champs, lets move on to next week, and start playing for home field and a possible bye… See you all at the Super Bowl!!!

Note to tigerwoodsballs, I guess you didn’t hear Aikman say “the ref just missed that one” in ref to the facemask to Shields that wasn’t called. He just blew it off!

  41. By Rusty Draper on Dec 18, 2012 | Reply

The Bears are not out of it they are down but not out. The Bears have two games left both games they should win. The Vikings have Houston and G.B. If the Bears win the last two and the Vik’s loose that should put the Bears in the Playoffs. So Packer fans(myself included) need to keep that in mind . You just never know what can happen in the NFL . That is why the focus should always be your NEXT opponent .

Troy Aikman played for the Cowboys, and they are jealous of the Packers (it goes back to the Landry/Lombardi/Ice Bowl days). They thought they’d won that “America’s Team” crown for good in the 90’s; and Jerry Jones made trips to Lambeau Field before he built his Taj stadium — it’s a competitive thing. But even if Troy had eight
super bowl rings, nothing would change, and Troy knows it. The Packers own the pedigree of being the team with the richest history in the league and even have the championship trophy named after their legendary coach. It’s just too much for some people to swallow. It’s sad that Troy lets that seep into his reporting–appearing obviously biased–that only underscores my point about his smallness and Packer greatness.

I’ll take Wayne and Larry over Buck and Troy any day. As long as they are day games; my local radio’s signal doesn’t work after sundown.

A terrible diet and room with no ventilation are being blamed for the
death of a man who was killed by his own gas. There was no mark on
his body but an autopsy showed large amounts of methane gas in his
system. His diet had consisted primarily of beans and cabbage (and a
couple of other things). It was just the right combination of foods. It
appears that the man died in his sleep from breathing the poisonous
cloud that was hanging over his bed.

You can bet that Crosby didn’t get a game ball….unless MM decided to shove it up is @ss. MM is making a BIG mistake sticking with Crosby. MM is too stubborn to accept the facts. Maybe when Crosby misses a potential game winning FG in the playoffs, MM will get the picture!

I sure do hope it dosn’t come to that. . . .(the Crosby

I back away from too much blame aimed at Troy’s “one-sided”
comentary at times. He is actually a very sharp gameday
announcer, and see’s & points out things, that many may
miss. . . but he did play for the ‘boys, so I guess I can
    understand his approach at times.

Besides, back in 89, if only we’ed drafted Barry, not Tony,
it would have been US, not THEM, in all those superbowls.

Can you imagine the Total Firepower our team would have had?

    Oh-well hindsite. . . . .

This team we have today looks PRETTY-DARN-SWEET.

I like who we have, and what we’re doing with it.

    Troy’s just jelous/jelouse/jellous/jellow, whatever. . .

I get a kick out of the comment that Aikman “owns” Rodgers by mrvanc. How do you figure? What is their record head to head? Aikman isn’t half the qb, he had one of the best RB’s of all time. The offensive line he played behind was nothing but all-pro players. The defense was also stacked.Rodgers is doing it with a different lineup week in and week out. When all is said and done we will see who the better QB is/was. Part of Aikman’s problem with the Packers IMO, he won the SB’s, but Favre got the attention and was a better QB.
