So we trade our pick to the team that knocked us out of the playoffs just last year…this makes sense how???

So we trade our pick to the team that
alast year knocked us out of the playoffs….how does this help is given 1 more 7th round pick????????

    Another 6th round choice woopeee
    Who woke Ted up???

Insane that the Pack trades their 55th pick with the 9ers…What are they thinking, giving a leg up to an already strong 9er team?

  4. By Dean on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

    Exactly
He was confused that we need a rb
Oh ya we love 6th round linebackers!!!!!!!

What are they Packers thinking???? Seriously for only a sixth round draft pick?????

  8. By packerswin96 on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

All Ted got was a 6th rounder? That is terrible!

    WHY!

  12. By Montanapackfan on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

So there goes Monte ball….do we think that lacy is better than ball or someone even lower in the draft than lacy can fill our running back woes. Cedric Benson is an old back in NFL standards what is our brain trust thinking with giving up our 55th pick???

  13. By Ross on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

Montee Ball was right there! What was Ted Thompson thinking?

  14. By billgessert on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

May I remind everyone that Donald Driver was a 7th round pick. Lighten up people!

  15. By James on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

Let’s leave the draft up to TT….this is his specialty! So he can obviously still get the player he wants at #61 and get some depth in the 7th round!

  16. By James on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

We trade the pick, now we loose Monty Ball. Whats next you pick a Quarterback that we don’t need or what….

  17. By Robert Mulvanny on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

Sorry, although I trust TT, I don’t get this one at all. Why are we trading down to a team that kicked our butts TWICE last year? I really wanted us to go after Ball. Too late now.

  18. By Backpack on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

Who wanted Monte Ball? He carried too many times in college — he won’t last long in the NFL. I have learned to trust in Ted Thompson.

You all want these big names. Are you forgetting that Ted built this team by his smart draft picks. Or would you rather be cashed strapped. When we start losing complian not when we win year after year.

To all the Ted Thompson detractors: Mr. Thompson has a track record of building good teams. He knows what he’s doing. If you people are so disappointed in him, go be a goddam Vikings fan.

We trade down a couple spots and get an extra pick and still will take Lacy or a Saftey to fill the needs.

Not a bad choice. Ball did not fit our system. He needs a big line. Packers run a smaller line.

You guys are a bunch of homers. Wisconsin running backs traditionally suck in the NFL . Lacy is the better pick. Heck I hope we get Lattimore in the later rounds, if his knees hold up he’ll be the best of them probably, ala Willis Mcgahee.

Good Trade, Ted. I don’t think Montee Ball was the choice for the Packers. You may have gotten another pick but you also got what looks to be a first round running back in Lacy.

Everyone needs to stop questioning and/or complaining about the packers picks/trades in the draft. TT has done an amazing job drafting and he should not be questioned.

I see people are complaining about getting an extra pick from the niners in the 6th round. Does anyone remember which round donald driver was drafted in? 7th round.

The packers are throwing away their future. They need Montee Ball and the rest of the Wisconsin Badgers eligible for the draft. We should probably trade for Scott Tolzein, too, and ask Ron Dayne to come out of retirement.

    lol – “OMG!”
Calm down, we wound up with a HB who has a 1st round grade on him, and we acquired a 6th round pick (Brady anyone?)

  54. By Mike on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

Ted likes to ac like he’s smarter than other GM’s…getting additional 6th & 7th rounders every year – then cutting the 6th & 7th rounders he drafted earlier…then idiots say how many draft picks make his team each year. Top teams make a run at it like SF, ATL, and SEATTLE this year. Ted’s only goal is to stay respectable.

It was good trade back, but he didn’t get the value on the value chart. He should have gotten a 4th for those 6 spots. At least compromise on a 5th. Weak in that regard. Still like TT. Hopefully we can move up in the 3rd to go get Barrett Jones or another center so Lacy has a place to run!

  72. By hp on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

I’ll take the pick becuase there will be good players at that pick. Remember Donald Driver, Marcus Colston,Matt Flynn or Tom Brady. The extra pick gives us a chance to land a star player and GB has a pretty good history fiding players in the later rounds. I’ll take it all day.

  73. By Shane on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

Lacey is easily the best back in the draft. Not many carries on his body waiting his turn behind Ingram and Trent Richardson at Alabama. Championship level, big game guy. Is a perfect fit.

  74. By hp on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

I like the Lacy pick because Harris is the change of pace back. James Starks is coming off injury. So having a bruiser back with our line will help Rodgers and crew. I know we’ll miss Jennings but now having a rb that we can develop with the size and potential as Lacy to go along with the weapons we still have how can anyone doubt Ted Thompson. He’s got a plan to get bigger and physical which the packers have gotten somewhat soft. The Seahawks and 49ers are physical teams. The Giants are in that mode. The pack have planty of talent on both sides of the ball but we need some bigger, faster and quicker players. I like the moves so far so great job Packers

  75. By Nolarond on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

Nice to see so many people commenting on here who know absolutely nothing about getting the best value for your picks.

We traded back because Ted saw that no other teams between the 55th and 61st were going to get whomever was at the top of our board at that time. And GUESS WHAT? We got Eddie Lacy. Stop whining.

Why don’t you guys sit back, relax and let Ted do his thing. He knows what he is doing.

  76. By murcle on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

Perhaps Monte Ball wouldn’t have worked out, but let’s
talk about Lacy: his injury record in college reads
like a cheap horror story. I think this is Justin Harrell all over again. (Harrell was the 1st round pick
in Ted’s first draft wasn’t he???) If you don’t learn from your mistakes, you are bound to repeat them.

  77. By michael on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

I really like this pick. Great value at 61 and fills a hole with talent.
Lacy is unlike any GB RB in recent memory. C. Benson was a bruiser, but he was never confused for a back with speed.
I don’t think it matters much that it was the 49ers acquired an earlier pick. If GB had picked at 55, Lacy would most likely been the selection. In that scenario, we have just received a free 6th rounder.

  79. By Lee on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

Traded it AGAIN with the 9ers, we moved back to their spot in the 3rd and probably picked up another late round pick off of them. I’m fine with this… More picks for us, less picks for the 9ers.

Why is TT trading completely out if the 3rd round for 6th and 7th round picks there are still good players on the board that can contribute from day 1. I trust in Ted, but right now these trades are puzzling. Like I said I trust Ted though, so ill reserve a complete opinion until it all plays out.

    3 5th rounders

Sounds like the Packers are going for depth at positions. Maybe worrying because of all of the injuries from last season?

  88. By John on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

Did you watch Montee Ball behind a mediocre offensive line early last year? He was ineffective. He needs to run behind studs and pack don’t have them. Lacy will be better than Ball, breaks tackles, spins better.

  89. By Jason on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

There are so many busts in the early rounds. It’s worth it to get more lower round ones, get a larger spread, and get a higher chance of getting a gem for lower costs. Plus, later in the season, you need that depth because of injuries. Look at the other teams doing the same thing: Seattle, 49ers, Vikings…teams understand this…which is why the smart teams don’t blow so much money on free agency.

  90. By TommyRay71 on Apr 26, 2013 | Reply

I love the armchair GM’s here. I wish Montee Ball good luck, but that is a sentimental pick. If he was still available when the Packers picked Eddie Lacy instead, 1/2 Wisconsin would be calling for TT’s head.I’m sure the war room went “WHEW” when Montee got picked.

Every one remembers the Arron Rodgers, Clay Matthwes, Sterling Sharpe. Everyone seems to forget Justin Harrell, Jamal Reynolds,Pat Lee & Tony Mandarich.

How about Edgar Bennett(4th), Mark Tauscher(7th), Matt Flynn (7th), and some scrub 7th round pick named Donald Driver.

Myself personally would rather give Mr. Thompson more bullets and see what he hit.

  91. By TL on Apr 27, 2013 | Reply

Ted wanted Lacy (over Ball, who was a product of his EXTREMELY talented offensive line) and instead of taking Lacy 55th, he was able to get an additional pick. So his “stupid trade” worked out… You people are ridiculous. When’s the last time a wisconsin running back worked out? *silence*

Just because someone is good from your home state, doesn’t mean he’ll turn out in the NFL. So stop with your wanna-be expertise, because it’s nonsense.

These people complaining about Ted have no idea what they’re talking about. There’s no talent in this draft worth trading up for, the day 3 picks will be almost as good as day 2 picks this year. Now the Pack has 10 of them. Look at all of the players still on the board. People are too emotional about the 49ers spread offense, that’s why Ted drafted Datone in the first place. He can handle the spread.
