GREEN BAY PACKERS vs. ST. LOUIS RAMS, Aug. 17, 2013, at St. Louis

HEAD COACH MIKE McCARTHY
(on his impression of the team in the first half) “Well, I thought the defense did a heck of a job keeping them out of the end zone. Real impressed with our defense being able to do it on third down. One thing missing from the game is we need to take the football away, either from our coverage units or defensively. So offense, put the ball in the end zone. First downs, taking care of the football, we’re doing that. I think we’ve had a solid first half.”

(on Eddie Lacy’s first-half performance) “Yeah, you know it’s great to have Eddie back healthy. You know that’s number one. He felt good out there and did some good things. So obviously we wanted to look at the run game tonight. I feel good about the way it was blocked and we’ll take a look at the video.”

QUARTERBACK AARON RODGERS
(on moving the ball but only coming away with six points) “Yeah, it was frustrating missing on those third-and-ones, but there were a lot of positives. Jermichael (Finley) carried over what he has been doing in practice. He’s big and athletic and he’s playing very fast right now. He’s going to be a big weapon for us. Jarrett (Boykin) stepped up and made a nice catch. We’ve just got to finish off those drives off with touchdowns.”

(on how the offensive line handled the test of coming into a road environment) “The noise wasn’t like a regular-season game, but I thought they did a good job. David (Bakhtiari) is going to have a tough test every week on that side. (Robert) Quinn is soon to be one of the premier pass rushers in the league and I think he did a pretty good job on him. He obviously let him beat him inside on the one, but I thought the tempo was good, the protection for the most part was good, and we moved the ball well.”

(on Lacy’s performance) “Eddie is a talented guy. He just needs to stay healthy and get more opportunities. He’s a big-time player with a bright future in front of him if he can stay in the moment and not get content and continue to do the things he is doing. He’s very gifted.”

TIGHT END JERMICHAEL FINLEY
(on the first-team offense) “We felt good out there. We got the running game going early and then that opened up the passing game. We’re feeling good right now.”

(on the rhythm he is in with Rodgers) “That just comes with talking off the field, just getting things right. We talk a lot and we’ve just got that chemistry going. I feel like we have got it but there are always things to work on and always things to improve on.”

(on the frustration of only coming away with six points) “Yeah, the first group will go in and we’ll dissect the series we had. We’ve got to finish and put the ball in the end zone.”
