Five players awarded game balls vs. Chicago

Posted by Mike Spofford on December 31, 2013 – 8:09 pm

The Packers coaching staff awarded game balls to five players for their performances at Chicago in Week 17.

CB Jarrett Bush was recognized on special teams, while WR Jordy Nelson and RB James Starks were the recipients on offense, plus CB Tramon Williams and LB Andy Mulumba on defense.

Bush had a tackle on kickoff coverage and a forced fumble on a Bears kickoff return. He also recovered a fumble by teammate Micah Hyde on a punt return.

Nelson had a career-high 10 receptions and a season-high 161 yards, while Starks had 11 rushes for 88 yards as part of the offense’s four-TD output. Nelson’s 161 yards were just one yard shy of his single-game career high, while Starks’ 88 yards were his most this season since Week 2.

Williams was credited with six total tackles (five solo) with two pass break-ups and one forced fumble. Mulumba, an undrafted rookie, had a sack among two tackles for loss and three total tackles.

Congrats to all. I am especially glad Mulumba did well given how thin they are at OLB.

So happy for Jordy! He’s by far my favorite player! I love him and watching him play. I’d die if I got the chance to meet him!

Say what you want about Jarrett Bush, he’s a great Special Teamer. Very solid. Great game, Jarrett, and all the rest!

Mulumba and Lattimore are the LBs for the playoffs with clay out. Can’t wait to see what they can do with their opportunities.

I agree with Eric, Kuhn should have been first up for a game ball. Without the cut block on Peppers to get just enough of him there is a sack and season over. Kuhn is so consistent and doing all the unsung work to help the team succeed.

Agree with these choices but would add Kuhn’s block and Lattimore’s timely tackle as great moves, too! And Lacy!!! Shields, Boykin, so many had good contributions this week. Can’t wait for this weekend. Truly hope a lot of snow will be there to welcome the 49ers.

Mulumba made some plays, but I thought he was out of position om alot of plays, not keeping contain on the outside and overpursuing the inside run. Several times I thought if Matthews was in there that wouldn’t have happened. Mulumba made some big plays, and also some bad ones. Youi shouldn’t get a game gall for that.

Come on Cobb needs one…first week back after breaking his leg and he scores two touchdowns one of them being the game winner.

No game ball for Aaron Rodgers???

What about kuhn? Without that key block on peppers, we would be watching the bears this Sunday instead.

  15. By ron on Jan 1, 2014 | Reply

Yes, kuhn’s block was important, but on that play Nelson got globbered outside the 5 yard zone. I think the ref’s would’ve flagged that if there wasn’t a touchdown on the play. So after the flag it’d be 1st & 10 at the 38 or there abouts and the drive continues. And crosby kickes a 25 yarder to win it as time expires,

The refs missed that call, would have been game over

I don’t dvr the games..but that darn ( :) ) Bush has busted loads of opponents plays recently…and good on Mulumba …both of these guys fly under the radar in such a great team! Grats to the other guys…keep it rocking all :))))

@reason1265, they saw no need to call PI since we had scored and would decline it anyway. They were cold too and wanted to get off the field as much as anyone else and if they had thrown it they would’ve had to take 2 minutes to announce the call just to say it was declined. However if the play had gone for negative as you say, i believe they’ve would’ve called it. then again I’ve seen stranger things happen in the NFL this year and last.

Kuhn’s block saved the game ,should of got a game ball

  23. By Scott on Jan 1, 2014 | Reply

Agree Kuhn saved the day. If you watch the play he is on the ground on the Packer 45 yard line and is the first to greet Cobb in the end zone. I’d like to see a wider shot to watch him blow by the rest of the team.

  24. By BENNY on Jan 1, 2014 | Reply

John Kuhn should have been first on the list… he saved our season, what a block!

No John Kuhn block……….game over!…….. Huge!
How about that kid, Boykin?. He made some big catches for us in that game as well as all year.
It still goes to show you that super stars aside, you still need players like Kuhn, and company to win in this league. Thanks guy’s. Go Pack.

So glad that Jordy got a ball. He had a terrific game AND he was playing with the flu. Just think about how miserable that must have been. Gotta love the guy!

Great effort by all these guys. Hope GB can keep Starks with his contract expiring. He and Lacy are the best 1-2 Punch at RB in the NFL.
