140811-nelson-news-now-300GREEN BAY–Jordy Nelson missed practice on Monday with a hamstring injury, but Coach Mike McCarthy downplayed the injury’s severity. “I think it’s day to day,” McCarthy said.

Rookie wide receiver Davante Adams missed practice with a wrist injury, defensive tackle Josh Boyd was out due to a rib injury and rookies running back Rajion Neal and linebacker Joe Thomas are out with knee injuries they sustained on Saturday night.

“I’m told it’s not a long-term injury,” McCarthy said of Neal. “I thought he ran strong. You like the finish on the touchdown run.

“It’s one of the best preseason games I’ve ever been a part of because it was a training atmosphere you can’t create,” McCarthy said of the nearly game-long downpour. “It hits every phase of your operation. The headsets went down. We made calls on the field. It was a great opportunity. It’s nice when it rains like that and it’s still warm. That game on Saturday night is something we can build off.”

Monday’s practice included several skirmishes.

“You’re at that point in camp that the irritation level is higher. There was a lot of hitting today. We did an extended half-line drill,” McCarthy said.

Center JC Tretter and tackle Derek Sherrod were singled out for praise.

“I liked them both. I thought Derek and JC each played well,” McCarthy said of their performances on Saturday.
