140814-news-now-mccarthy-300GREEN BAY–Coach Mike McCarthy was noncommital on playing time for his players in Saturday’s preseason game in St. Louis.

“We’ll see how the pace of the game goes,” McCarthy said on Thursday, when asked how much playing time Matt Flynn and Scott Tolzien would each receive in their battle for the backup quarterback job. “Jordy (Nelson) is on course to practice tomorrow. Once we get through practice we’ll determine the play time for all of our guys.”

The goal for game two of the preseason remains to “try to get as much information as we possibly can on our players.”

Last Saturday’s game in Tennessee was played in a steady downpour. In St. Louis, the Packers will play on the fast track of the Edward Jones Dome.

“It’s good that we get inside for one game,” McCarthy said. The Packers play in a dome in Detroit and New Orleans this season.

McCarthy also commented on an apparent trade that will send defensive lineman Jerel Worthy to New England.

“You want to thank him for his effort. Injury situations are tough. Sometimes these decisions have to be made,” McCarthy said.
