GREEN BAY–The Packers held a 34-17 lead over the Falcons heading into the fourth quarter of Monday night’s game at Lambeau Field.
Atlanta began the second half with a 79-yard pass completion from Matt Ryan to Julio Jones. It gave Jones six catches for 179 yards. The Packers defense stiffened and Falcons Coach Mike Smith elected to go for it on fourth-and-goal from the 5. Smith’s faith in Ryan was rewarded by a touchdown pass from Ryan to Eric Weems. With 12:35 to play, the Packers led, 31-14.
After forcing a Packers punt, the Falcons began a drive at their 46-yard line. It ended with a Matt Bryant field goal that cut the Packers’ lead to 14 points.
Aaron Rodgers reignited the Packers with a 23-yard pass to Randall Cobb that carried to the Atlanta 47. On the next play, Rodgers hit Jordy Nelson for 28 yards to the Atlanta 19. That’s where the drive stalled, and Mason Crosby came on to attempt a 33-yard field goal. He converted, and the Packers led, 34-17, with 3:57 to play.
Atlanta roared back. Ryan moved his offense down the field in small chunks, mixing run and pass. The quarter ended with the Falcons on the Packers 33.
