GREEN BAY–Alas, an inside linebacker.
With their first pick on the third day of the NFL draft, the Packers finally addressed their need for an inside linebacker with the selection of Michigan’s Jake Ryan. Ryan, 6-2, 240, is the 129th overall pick of the draft.
Ryan is described as a downhill tackler and a high-effort defender who possesses coverage skills. He’s been compared to former Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop. He’s known as a tough guy, but one draft report says he should not be pigeonholed as a try-hard player, suggesting his talents go beyond that cliche.
He sustained a torn ACL in 2013. He’s played both outside and inside linebacker. He played inside exclusively this past season.
