GREEN BAY–This summer’s training camp could be highlighted by a battle between Scott Tolzien and rookie Brett Hundley for the backup quarterback job. Tolzien caught Head Coach Mike McCarthy’s eye in Wednesday’s OTA practice.
“Scott Tolzien has taken a step. I thought he’s done that in OTAs. He had three big-time throws (today). In the end, it’s the preseason games. You want to see every player take a jump, especially at the quarterback position. I believe he’ll do that,” McCarthy said.
Hundley, a fifth-round draft pick from UCLA, is catching up after missing the first week of OTAs.
“The last two days, he’s made a step. He’s on time. He’s working with Aaron (Rodgers); Scott’s been a big help. It’s an excellent room,” McCarthy said of Hundley and his quarterbacks.
Rodgers tossed completion after completion on Wednesday.
“Our OTAs are going well. The flow of it has been excellent. They all start the same. You have to learn to practice as a team. We have two more this week and then mini-camp next week. After tomorrow, we’ll have everything in, offense, defense and special teams,” McCarthy said.
