GREEN BAY — Mike McCarthy said his team is coming off a strong spring season and wants to come out of the blocks fast for the start of training camp on Thursday.
“I want to hit it and get it. We have some things we feel we need to highlight, different than in the past. I’m confident that through the grinds of training camp we’ll form an excellent football team,” McCarthy told reporters at the Packers head coach’s press conference on Wednesday.
McCarthy is welcoming a veteran team that’ll kick off training camp practices at 8:20 a.m. on Thursday.
“There’s a lot of energy in the building. Everybody is excited to get on Nitschke Field tomorrow,” McCarthy said. “This team is definitely different than 2014. We acknowledged that in the spring.”
The Packers came within four minutes of the Super Bowl last season. McCarthy said he won’t encourage his team to use last season as motivation this year.
“It’s a group that has a lot of experience. There’s a percentage of youth we need to get ready. I’m focused on the top of the roster and the bottom of the roster coming together. We’re about winning the world championship here. Everything we do pushes us toward that goal,” McCarthy said.
