“We definitely got off to a fast start. The tempo was what I was looking for. Getting back to playing football at that speed is good,” McCarthy said.
His concern following the Thursday morning practice was for wide receiver Jared Abbrederis, who sustained an injury midway through practice when cornerback LaDarius Gunter leaped to make an interception of an Aaron Rodgers pass.
“Jared is being evaluated right now. I know he fell pretty hard on that interception,” McCarthy said. He said he didn’t know what the injury is but didn’t think it involved the knee Abbrederis injured in last year’s training camp.
Tight end Andrew Quarless was absent from practice.
“He’s dealing with an extremely difficult family situation and he’s where he needs to be,” McCarthy said of Quarless.
Second-round draft pick Quinten Rollins did not practice.
“It’s a physical matter. We’ve got to get him right, got to get him healthy,” McCarthy said.
