GREEN BAY — Head Coach Mike McCarthy was planning to shorten on Friday, but then it got even shorter when Nitschke Field got a little wet from some rain and a handful of players were dropping out with injuries. Practice ended after roughly 90 minutes, by far the shortest workout of camp thus far.
“This is frankly the point in camp you concern yourself with,” McCarthy said afterward. “You get eight, nine, 10 practices in, this is the threshold where you have to be smart, try to prevent the fatigue injuries. It was a little slick out there with the light rain.”
DL Mike Pennel (groin) and TE Mitchell Henry (finger) were already added to the injury list before practice, and then as the workout went on, LB Jayrone Elliott (shoulder), G T.J. Lang (shoulder), CB Damarious Randall (groin) and LB Josh Francis (hip) were all dealing with injuries.
Rookie RB John Crockett (ankle) did practice for the first time in camp. He had injured his ankle back in June during minicamp and was on the field in pads Friday for some limited work.
“For young players, missing padded work, it’s critical,” McCarthy said.
