GREEN BAY — Packers General Manager Ted Thompson spoke on Tuesday of what he wants to see in a preseason game.
“We’ll focus on the young and inexperienced and see how they do with the lights on. I’m looking for run fast and do good things, as opposed to who’s supposed to go in this direction. You’re looking for speed, explosion, strength, power,” Thompson said.
Thompson will get his first look at Packers rookies in preseason action when the Packers play at New England on Thursday night.
“As you get ready to play preseason games, you get more interested,” Thompson said.
Backup quarterback is one of the positions of greatest interest. Scott Tolzien is Aaron Rodgers’ backup.
“What I’m looking for is managing the team, doing things with an understanding of what’s going on. We want to see the guys run the huddle, managing the team. That’s a huge part of that position, managing the chaos,” Thompson said.
“The preseason games are huge, and we want them to know they’re huge, to be under a certain amount pressure to perform,” he added.
