“It’s great to have James back. He looks good. He has a certain energy about him. He’s a good fit for us, an excellent fit for us,” McCarthy said on Monday.
Jones was signed to the Packers roster after having been released by the Giants this past weekend. Jones left the Packers in free agency a year ago. He rejoins quarterback Aaron Rodgers and a passing scheme with which he is familiar and helped create.
“Look at his tape from last year. He looks like James Jones. He was a big part of our success in the past,” McCarthy said. “There’ll be variations of concepts that existed when he was here. I don’t know that he’ll have any major learning curve. He’ll pretty much focus on game plans.”
Wide receiver Myles White was released on Monday to make room for Jones. Should White clear waivers, the Packers could sign him to their practice squad. Nine of 10 practice-squad spots were filled on Monday.
“Myles White did a heckuva job. It’s the tough part of the business. He’s done everything you can ask,” McCarthy said. “You always want to get your guys back on the practice squad.”
