150914-nn1-650GREEN BAY — Revenge will not be the Packers’ motive this week when they host the Seattle Seahawks in the Packers’ home opener.

“I’ve raised the emotions of a football team too much. That’s not going to happen this week. I know who we’re playing. We’re focused on winning the game. That’s about as far as it goes for us,” Coach Mike McCarthy said on Monday.

The Packers are 1-0 following a season-opening win in Chicago. The Seahawks, who rallied to beat the Packers in the NFC title game last January, are 0-1 following a loss in St. Louis.

“The message? Today’s message was about self-improvement,” McCarthy said.

Tackling would seem to be the area of the most needed improvement.

“We did not tackle very well. We were in double-digit missed tackles. That’s where we need to make improvement,” McCarthy said, referring to the performance of the defense in Sunday’s win over the Bears.

Aaron Rodgers clinched the win with a near-perfect performance in the fourth quarter.

“I definitely say it’s an important aspect of being a top quarterback. Aaron has done that consistently throughout his career. He’s definitely a crunch time quarterback, to answer your question,” McCarthy said.
