The Packers won the toss and deferred their choice. The Chargers opened with three consecutive pass completions that moved the ball to near midfield. That’s where the drive stalled. The Packers took possession at their 13-yard line following the Chargers punt.
James Starks broke loose for 25 yards on the Packers’ first play from scrimmage. Aaron Rodgers pitched a 22-yard pass completion to James Jones at the Chargers 40.
A Rodgers scramble for 15 yards put the ball at the Chargers 22, and then a Rodgers pass to Randall Cobb moved the chains and left first-and-goal at the Chargers 10. On second down, Starks scored on a 5-yard shovel pass from Rodgers, 7-0, 8:38 to play in the first quarter.
Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon broke loose for a 25-yard gain and the Chargers were at the Packers 32. On third-and-7, Rivers flipped a pass to Keenan Allen for 12 yards to the 17. The drive stalled and the Chargers were forced to settle for a 36-yard field goal, 7-3, 3:21.
Starks’ second touchdown of the day, a 65-yard run, left the Packers with a 14-3 lead heading into the second quarter.
