150930-nn1-650GREEN BAY — The run is at root of the Packers’ focus this week.

“Everything starts with the run. You have to stop the run on defense. You have to run the ball on offense. If you don’t run the ball, your plays are down,” Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy said on Thursday, referring in the latter to how the running game impacts the play-action passing game.

In a week dominated by discussion of scheme, McCarthy added: “Any time you let the other side of the ball dictate to you, your plan isn’t sound.”

Play count, which has sagged in recent weeks, to a low of 46 in the loss to the Broncos?

“You have a number of things you’d like to run. Any time you’re low on total plays you don’t get to a lot of things you’d like to get to,” McCarthy said. “Every offense has an approach, an identity, and it’s just getting back to it. This is the game of football. This is how it goes in 16 games.”
