160103-q1-in-game-updates-650GREEN BAY — The Packers and Vikings were tied, 3-3, following one quarter of play at Lambeau Field on Sunday night, in a game featuring two teams bent on running the ball.

The Packers won the toss and deferred their choice. On fourth-and-three from their 37, the Vikings gained 41 yards on a fake-punt run to the Packers 21-yard line. The Packers held and the Vikings kicked a 39-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead with 10:45 to play in the first quarter.

Facing fourth-and-1 at the Packers’ 41, Coach Mike McCarthy made a bold decision to go for the first down. Eddie Lacy powered past the line to gain. Two plays later, Aaron Rodgers threw to Richard Rodgers for 18 yards to the Vikings 33.

James Starks gained a first down on third-and-1, and the Packers were in the red zone at the Vikings 19. On the next play, Rodgers passed to James Jones for 8 to the 11. Eventually, the Packers would face fourth-and-1, and Mason Crosby tied the game with a 28-yard field goal with 2:02 to play.
