GREEN BAY — Packers WR Jeff Janis will not practice this week due to a hand injury, Head Coach Mike McCarthy announced on Sunday, but there’s been no timeline established for his potential return.
Multiple media reports have indicated Janis has a fracture in his hand. McCarthy did not get into specifics and said he had not discussed further details yet with team physician Dr. Pat McKenzie.
“He will not be available this week,” McCarthy said of Janis.
The Packers begin their transition to an in-season training schedule with Sunday’s practice, which McCarthy said would be like a Wednesday during the regular season. Practice won’t be as long, but there is more teaching time in the meeting rooms to prepare.
“We have to teach them that process, running an opponent scout team, those types of things,” McCarthy said. “With the post-practice meetings, we’re still in a training-camp mode.”
Friday’s preseason opener against the Browns showed many typical things on film from a first preseason game. The coaching staff graded the game film on Saturday and has gone over all the player grades heading into the new week.
“We have a lot of work to do, fundamentals especially,” McCarthy said. “That’s always the case after the first week.”
