Aaron Rodgers wins ESPY for Best NFL Player

rodgers-espy-blogGreen Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers received the award for Best NFL Player Wednesday night at the annual ESPYS awards show in Los Angeles.

Rodgers was presented with the trophy by former Packers QB Brett Favre on the pre-ESPYS red carpet show.

With online voting determining the winner, Rodgers beat out J.J. Watt, Tom Brady, DeMarco Murray and Antonio Brown for the honor. He was also a finalist for Best Male Athlete, along with Watt, LeBron James and winner Stephen Curry.

The reigning NFL MVP, Rodgers passed for 4,381 yards with 38 touchdowns and just five interceptions in 2014.

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has been nominated for an ESPY, one of the annual awards handed out by ESPN.Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has been nominated for an ESPY, one of the annual awards handed out by ESPN.

Rodgers is again nominated for Best NFL Player, an award he won in 2011 and 2012. Rodgers is up against Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson, Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson, and Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt.

Online voting is underway, and fans will determine the winners by voting online at ESPN.com/espys. Voting will run through 8 p.m. CT on July 17. The winners will be announced during The 2013 ESPYs, televised live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 17, at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN.

Rodgers wins ESPY again

For the second straight year, Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was named Best NFL Player at the 20th annual ESPY awards on Wednesday night. Rodgers won the award last year coming off of Green Bay’s Super Bowl triumph and his Super Bowl MVP award. This year he won the NFL MVP award after breaking the single-season league record for passer rating with a 122.5 mark.

So, over the last couple of weeks, Rodgers has been named the top player in NFL Network’s “Top 100,” Ron Jaworski’s top quarterback in his QB countdown on ESPN, and now Best NFL Player at the ESPYs.
