Tuesday morning practice report

LB Brady Poppinga was back at practice after missing a few days with a concussion. With LB Clay Matthews (hamstring) out, Poppinga was paired with LB Brad Jones as the starting pair of outside linebackers, with LB Brandon Chillar working with the second unit.

Otherwise, the injury list remained long. WR Brett Swain (knee), CB Josh Bell (foot), S Will Blackmon (knee), LBs Frank Zombo (ankle), Alex Joseph (quad) and Nick Barnett (knee), G/C Jason Spitz (calf), WR Donald Driver (calf), TE Andrew Quarless (hamstring) and DE Ronald Talley (knee) remained out, along with the three PUP guys — S Atari Bigby (ankle), CB Al Harris (knee) and RB James Starks (hamstring).

Veteran offensive tackles Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher also took the morning off, as has been custom on days with two workouts. S Derrick Martin also remains on the one-a-day schedule.

Rookie first-round draft pick Bryan Bulaga continued to work at LG, rotating with Daryn Colledge on the No. 1 offensive line. With Clifton and Tauscher out, Allen Barbre played LT with the first unit and Breno Giacomini and T.J. Lang rotated at RT.

Practice, which was in shells and not full pads, started with a long jog-through segment but then finished with a series of team (11-on-11) periods.

CB Charles Woodson deflected a pass and nearly intercepted it himself in one of the first team snaps. The very next snap, CB D.J. Clark did get an INT off a deflection when the pass bounced off the receiver’s hands.

During a no-huddle session, QB Aaron Rodgers found WR James Jones for a short TD pass to complete the drive. Later, CB Jarrett Bush had a nice pass break-up against WR Jason Chery, and QB Matt Flynn found WR Jordy Nelson on an out pattern along the right sideline. Flynn’s throw was right on target, allowing Nelson to make the catch, get both feet in bounds, and turn upfield for more yardage. Chillar also broke through and got a sack of Flynn.

In the final team period, LB A.J. Hawk nearly got an INT but still made a nice play breaking up a Rodgers pass deep down the middle for Nelson.

Players will return to the field Tuesday night for a full-pads practice.
