HEAD COACH MIKE McCARTHY:

(on the aggressive game plan early) “We just wanted to take a shot early. We wanted to try to get out in front of them. Offensively, I really like the way the first offensive unit is playing. The protection was good, the run blocking was good, and Aaron and the perimeter group have been on target so far through training camp. We just wanted to be a little aggressive and really run our offense.”

(on how long Chillar and Poppinga will play in the second half due to lack of linebacker depth) “The goal is probably not to play those guys in the second half, but obviously we have some injury situations that we are fighting. I want to get a good look at our young guys and I want someone to step up on these special teams.”

(on moving the ball late in the first half but then having the penalty) “Oh, very disappointed. I screwed up the communication on the sideline. It’s a mental error. Matt Flynn and the offense did a great job getting down there. We should have had a field-goal opportunity.”

(on the explanation he was given about the Derrick Martin ejection) “I haven’t seen it. It’s uncalled for. There is no place for that.”

QUARTERBACK AARON RODGERS:

(on the productivity of the No. 1 offense) “We did some good things out there. I thought we moved the ball well, had good tempo. We converted on third downs and made some big plays.”

(on the first play, going deep to Jennings) “It was just a base call we have, taking a shot out there. Greg made a great play.”

(on the effectiveness of TE Jermichael Finley) “He’s tough to guard. He’s a great player. He’s going to be a big part of our offense. Anytime I get the ball, I’ll look for him.”

(on his individual play through the first two games) “We still have a lot of work to do. But I think we’re doing some good things. The key for me is just discipline and getting us in a good situation (at the line of scrimmage).”

TIGHT END JERMICHAEL FINLEY:

(on the first-team offense’s ability to move the ball tonight) “We came out pretty hot and just kept it going throughout the half. Like I was telling them on the sidelines, I feel like the offense can score when we want to. That’s the kind of swagger we have to have coming into the season. We have to know we can score every time we touch the ball, and that’s what we need to do.”

SAFETY NICK COLLINS:

(on how the way the defense started and the progress made from last week) “We were pleased with the way we came out and started with everybody playing their role and doing their assignments, and we got that three-and-out. We know that all of our players aren’t here, so we got some of our backup guys some work and that’s going to make us even stronger. We’ve just got to focus a little more, clean up the penalties and keep playing.”

(on the importance of the preseason and paying attention to details) “You want to work out all of the kinks in the preseason so that when the season starts you just click-in and you’re ready to go. This is about small steps, working on fundamentals, and that’s the main thing, especially for us defensive backs, working on the fundamentals, the foot work, the communication. There’s still work to do, we’re still learning.”

DEFENSIVE END CULLEN JENKINS:

(on his impressions of the defensive performance tonight) “We came out and we started fast on the first series, we got a quick three-and-out, I believe it was. We’ve just got to try and become more consistent and carry that on, but I felt like we came out on that first series and got it done.”

(on what the defense will continue to work on going forward) “We’ve just got to keep correcting the mistakes, because we’re doing some stupid things here and there. We know we can do it; it’s just a matter of getting everything cleaned up. We’re killing ourselves out there with some of the mistakes we’re making. We know that’s not like us, that’s not how we play, and we’ve got to get it corrected.”
