Friday’s coverage

Since LB Nick Barnett went down with a season-ending wrist injury, LB A.J. Hawk has taken over the signal-calling responsibilities on the defense, and the coaching staff couldn’t be more pleased with how he’s handled that role. That new job of Hawk’s is the subject of today’s feature story.

Also, G Daryn Colledge returned to practice and is probable for Sunday’s game. So his consecutive-games-played streak appears likely to continue. That, along with an update on TE Andrew Quarless and some interesting history between CB Charles Woodson and new Dallas QB Jon Kitna, can be found in today’s notebook.
