Welcome to Lambeau Field everyone.
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:00

Green Bay’s inactive players tonight are CB Pat Lee, LB Robert Francvois, T Mark Tauscher, G Nick McDonald, T Marshall Newhouse, WR Donald Driver, TE Andrew Quarless and DE Jarius Wynn.

Bryan Bulaga will start at RT for Tauscher and Jordy Nelson will start at WR for Driver.

Sunday November 7, 2010 6:01 Guest
6:02

Bigby is not starting tonight but he is active and will play. How much? I would expect he would see his most action on special teams, barring an injury at safety, but he could rotate in for a few snaps on defense as well.

Who will be doing kick returns with Lee inactive tonight?
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:05 Joe
6:07

You won’t see Bigby as a return man. He’s never done that in his career and to my knowledge has never practiced it.
The three options at kick return with Lee inactive are Jordy Nelson, Dimitri Nance and Tramon Williams. I think Williams is the least likely. Nance is active for tonight’s game, so he could get a look. But I’d bet on Nelson, at least for the first one. We’ll see.

why isnt jones starting at wr ?
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:07 Deets
6:08

My guess is it’s simply because Nelson had five receptions last week and Jones had none. So they’re going with the hot hand. But the Packers use three-WR sets so often it doesn’t matter much. Jennings, Nelson and Jones will be the guys in three-WR.

Will shields ever get another shot at returning kicks and punts?
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:09 Mark
6:11

This year, I would doubt it. He hasn’t practiced as a return man since spring workouts, really. They could give him another shot for next year, but he’ll have to show better hands than he did this past spring so he can get a shot during training camp and go from there.

[Comment From RyanRyan: ]
Is Howard Green going to get lots of playing time this week since he did a great job last week?
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:11 Ryan
6:12

It all depends on what defensive packages the Packers use. Green is a down lineman in the base defense, when there are three linemen on the field. He made a great contribution last week against the Jets’ run game. But the Packers won’t use him much, if at all, in nickel.

is james starxs playing tonight at running back?
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:12 duke
6:14

James Starks has not been activated from the PUP list. The Packers have until Monday to make a decision with Starks — put him on the active roster, put him on injured reserve (ending his season), or release him. The third option is by far the least likely. Putting him on the active roster would require the release of another player, so hard to say if that will happen either. It all depends whether the coaches feel he can contribute in a game, and he hasn’t played in one since 2008 in college.

Will the Packers activate Harris finally on Monday? What about James Starks?
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:14 John
6:16

The decision has to be made on Harris tomorrow. I can’t say I know for sure what the team is going to do, but as mentioned with Starks, activating Harris will require a player to be released. He has said he feels ready to play and I would think the Packers would like to see him contribute down the stretch.

since quarless is out is crabtree going to be taken off special teams because they need him as their No.2 TE
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:17 Tom
6:18

Good question. I don’t think Crabtree would be pulled off special teams, but that’s certainly a consideration. It may depend on how much the two-TE set is in the offensive game plan. If it’s in a lot, Crabtree may not play special teams. If it’s not a primary part of the game plan, he’ll probably play his usual special teams role.

Will the Defense get after the QB more with someone less talented than Romo back there or sit back and wait on Kitna to throw a pick? Or should we look at for a combination of the 2?
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:24 belto
6:25

Good question. If I knew that, I might be helping coach the defense instead of doing this. πŸ™‚ Seriously, though, I would think the approach would be to mix it up. If Kitna feels he’s just going to be blitzed on every play, the Cowboys will adjust to hot reads and short throws and try to get yards after the catch. If he’s not feeling any added pressure, he’ll try to look deep to Miles and Bryant I would think. Have to mix it up and keep him guessing.

Another good question. Nance is active tonight, but we won’t know how involved he is in the offensive game plan until things get going. McCarthy has said in the past he’d like to get Nance some opportunities. The Packers don’t really know what he can do yet. Nance also has been mentioned as an option on kickoff returns.

Is pickett going to start tonight with him being banged up?
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:28 jimmy
6:29

Pickett is active and listed as a starter at defensive end. Whether he’s out there for the first snap will depend on the defensive package. Pickett plays primarily base defense, but Raji and Jenkins are usually the only down linemen in nickel. Pickett has played some nickel in a package called “big nickel,” but whether that’s part of the plan against the Cowboys I don’t know.

Any chance that we might go after some running back help this week with our bye week next week?
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:30 brad
6:31

The trading deadline has passed, so any help added to the roster would come in the form of street free agents. If the Packers had their eye on anybody in that regard, I would think he would have been signed by now. Always a chance someone could get released from another team, so the team is always watching the waiver wire.

Sunday November 7, 2010 6:36 christopher

I wish I knew what was going to happen with the CBA, but nobody does at this point. I would think the negotiations would really heat up once the season ends, but if they drag on, it could affect the offseason workout schedule and all of that. If you’re asking about the possibility of an extended season, I think the league is trying to give fans more real games in place of the exhibition ones, but a lot of reports show the players aren’t crazy about playing more games. I would expect that issue to be part of the negotiations going forward.

Are Jenkins and Pickett 100% since Wynn is inactive?
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:47 Big Dave
6:48

I don’t know if I’d say 100 percent, but Wynn being inactive probably has more to do with the addition of Green to the defensive line and the improved play of C.J. Wilson. Wilson is definitely ahead of Wynn as far as the depth chart at this point.

our d-line played really well last week against one of the best o-lines. should we expect the same rotation and same level of play?
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:50 evan
6:51

Might be tough to match that level of play two weeks in a row, but it helps to have Pickett back and Jenkins is another week removed from his calf injury. Green should help against the run, and Wilson keeps improving during this rookie season. Packers played a lot more base defense (three down linemen) against the Jets than they have against most teams because of the focus on stopping the run (and they had enough healthy bodies, finally, to do so). Not sure if the Cowboys will try to run the ball and keep the Packers in base or if they’re going to spread things out with WRs Austin, Bryant and Williams and force the Packers into nickel for a large portion of the game.

Will not having Driver over the middle hurt getting a deep threat to Jones or Jennings or should Jordy occupy enough to keep that going?
Sunday November 7, 2010 6:52 belto
6:54

With Driver out most of last week’s game, the Packers used a variety of WRs in the slot to go over the middle, including Jennings. That’s one of the features of this offense — training the WRs to play all the positions, out wide on both sides and in the slot. I would expect to see a mixture of guys.

Has Bigby’s play in the past not earned him not playing on special teams especially with his injry history. When he is on the field alot he plays like a Pro-Bowl safety so would they not be cautious in getting him to that point.
Sunday November 7, 2010 7:04 belto
7:05

A valid point, that caution is important. But Bigby’s not starting, yet he’s active, so I would think they’re going to ask him to contribute somehow. Will he rotate in at safety for Peprah at times? Maybe. Only Dom Capers knows for sure. But the way Peprah played in the fourth quarter against the Jets last week, I would think they want to see him keep this up. He’s been physical against the run and broken up some big passes.

Statistically speaking this season, the Cowboys have thrown the ball much better than they’ve run it. But you can’t fall asleep on Marion Barber and Felix Jones. Those are quality running backs. Capers’ philosophy is always to stop the run first, and I don’t expect that to change.

He threw for almost 400 yards last week against Jacksonville. The Cowboys have talented receivers in Austin, Bryant and Williams, plus Witten is a top-notch TE. Kitna has seen it all before, as McCarty said this week. The biggest thing Romo has over Kitna for the Cowboys is mobility and making plays out of nothing, scrambling, etc. Kitna is not as mobile, but his arm is plenty strong.

Packers get another TD because Dallas can’t challenge the play. Jarrett Bush strips KO returner Bryan McCann and the ball pops right to Nick Collins, who returns it 28 yards for the TD. Replays show McCann is down before the ball comes out, but there’s 2:04 on the clock and Dallas has no timeouts left.

The trading deadline has passed, so any help added to the roster would come in the form of street free agents. If the Packers had their eye on anybody in that regard, I would think he would have been signed by now. Always a chance someone could get released from another team, so the team is always watching the waiver wire.

With Driver out most of last week’s game, the Packers used a variety of WRs in the slot to go over the middle, including Jennings. That’s one of the features of this offense — training the WRs to play all the positions, out wide on both sides and in the slot. I would expect to see a mixture of guys.

Cowboys can’t take advantage of the 15-yard penalty on Collins and end up punting. Bishop with a sack on the series. Green Bay takes over on its own 12 with 7:21 left in the third.

We’ll see. If the Packers can score on this drive and go up by 35, Rodgers might get the rest of the night off.

Crosby is good from 26 yards out to make it 38-7 with 13:08 left in the game. Jones dropped what could have been a TD pass on third down. Would have been his second TD and first two-TD game of his career. Too bad. He’s had a nice game.

Sunday November 7, 2010 10:01 pete

45 points is the most. Tied it tonight. Also scored 45 in 1964 and 1997. This would be the largest margin of victory vs. Dallas if the score remains the same.

Not sure if you can call it three-FB because Kuhn has been a RB more than a FB this season. But I get your point. No idea about the comment about biggest backfield in history. Doubt anyone keeps that stat.

He’s certainly in the running as the league leader in sacks. The INT and TD helps his cause, for sure, as does the overall performance of the GB defense lately. Long ways to go this season though … still 7 regular-season games left.
