Average class

INDIANAPOLIS–A college scouting director who wanted to remain anonymous told packers.com on Thursday that the 2011 draft class is “about an average one. The juniors have spiced up the early rounds,” he said.

Where is the class strong?

“On defense there are some linemen. There will be some good receivers coming out of the middle rounds,” he added.

Is there a clear-cut, first-overall-pick type of player?

“I don’t think so. I like (Cam) Newton, but you’re talking about a kid with one year of playing experience.”
