Smith talks of Rodgers, Packers

INDIANAPOLIS–Just as Mike McCarthy has one of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL in Aaron Rodgers, so does Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith in Matt Ryan. Last season, the two teams, coaches and quarterbacks met twice, which resulted in a split of the two games. The two teams, it would appear, have bright futures and will be facing each other in big games and postsseason games for several years to come.

“They were definitely playing the best football of any team in the league at the end of the season,” Smith told on Friday, while making a visit to Lucas Oil Stadium. Smith, of course, is in town for the scouting combine. “I was very impressed with the way Aaron played. He has a quick release that can cause a lot of problems and he has an innate ability to get away from rushers,” he added.

Which is the team to beat in 2011?

“They will be the team to beat, in my mind, because they’re the Super Bowl champs,” Smith said.
