A storm that blew through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan overnight caused a widespread power outage that resulted in multiple school closings this morning, including Escanaba Junior Middle School.

So, a surprise stop scheduled for the school was not to be. However, the Tour was able to spend the time at nearby North Woods Home Care and Hospice (www.northwoodshomecare.com), where the players surprised some of the 40 residents with a game of bingo.

“I love bingo,” said Antonio Freeman. “My mother is in a nursing home, and she always wants me to visit when they’re playing bingo. That was great today with them.”

Gilbert Brown played the role of ‘Bingo Security,’ and walked around the tables to “make sure no one is cheating.”

With a large No. 93 patrolling, it is safe to say there were no such reports. He also gave a hand by calling out letters and numbers.

Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy won the first game and gave his prize, a Packers t-shirt, to a resident seated at the same table.

Other prizes were handed out and the players posed for more pictures with their senior fans. Footballs were handed out, too.

“I thought it was perfect,” said Kristine Scheider, the facility’s administrator. “So many of our residents have been lifelong fans. They’ll be talking about this day for months.”

Prior to stopping at North Woods, the Tour enjoyed a tasty lunch in downtown Escanaba at Stone’s Deli. Many fans stopped by to say hello and get autographs and pictures. Outside, the players posed for pictures in front of the restaurant.
