Am I just being hopeful or are the reports of not-so-secret negotiations in Chicago between the league and its players worthy of a spark of hope that maybe the two sides are headed in a positive direction? The NFL and the players association (NFLPA) provided this joint statement on Thursday: “The parties met pursuant to court mediation. Owners and players were engaged in confidential discussions before Chief Magistrate Judge Boylan. The court has ordered continued confidentiality of the mediation sessions.” A joint statement: That sounds good, doesn’t it?
