A head coach’s opening address to his team for the start of training camp is always noteworthy, because it sets a tone for the season. When you’re the head coach of the reigning Super Bowl champions, your opening address to your team is most newsworthy.
Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy addressed his team for the first time on Saturday, and this is the message McCarthy sent: Be the hunter, not the hunted.
“People talk about defending the title and being hunted,” linebacker Desmond Bishop said of what McCarthy told the team. “He said we’re not going to fall into the weak mindset of being hunted. We’re going to be the hunter.”
The hunting begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, when the Packers take to Ray Nitschke Field for their first practice since winning Super Bowl XLV.
