The Vikings took USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil at No. 4, finding a blind-side protector for last year’s first-round pick, QB Christian Ponder. The Vikings were practically without a LT last year after Bryant McKinnie was released at the start of training camp.
The Vikes have plenty of holes elsewhere, too, but they just gave Ponder some reassurance.
That was a heck of a trade for Minnesota, getting three additional picks on Saturday, moving down just one spot, and still getting the guy they wanted all along. They weren’t going to take Richardson, obviously, with Adrian Peterson still in his prime. The Browns did the Vikings a huge favor, to the chagrin of the rest of the NFC North, which would rather see the Vikings take a little while longer to rebuild.
