“Johnathan’s a class act. He’s as fine a man who’s walked throw these doors during my time here. It’s great to have him back,” Coach Mike McCarthy said following Monday morning’s practice.
Franklin, a fourth-round draft pick in 2013, was released by the Packers this past spring as a result of a neck injury Franklin sustained in his rookie season.
Meanwhile, the Packers were involved in their first full-pads practice of training camp on Monday.
“First impression? The energy was good, the structure was solid, but it’s pads and we weren’t totally coordinated. We’re not ready to play a game; that’s for sure,” McCarthy said in evaluation of the practice.
“Concerns? I don’t really have any concerns. This is a time to grow. Your first few practices, you have to flush out that OTAs mindset. My focus is getting better every day. That’s my job. I’m excited about the progress we’re going to make as a team … and see who steps up. Who’s going to be on the 53 and who’s going to be on the practice squad?”
