140905-news-now-mccarthy-300GREEN BAY — Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy confirmed on Friday that RT Bryan Bulaga did not sustain a major knee injury against the Seahawks, and he could be back on the practice field as soon as Wednesday.

There’s no guarantee he’ll return that quickly, though.

“Right now, there’s a little bit of a gap between how Bryan feels and how the medical department feels about him. That’s normal,” McCarthy said. “Bryan would like to try to go on Wednesday, but we have to continue to see how his knee reacts between now and then.”

RB Eddie Lacy also has already cleared the first step in the concussion protocol, which is a good sign he won’t be out for any extended period. McCarthy did not comment on when Lacy might return to practice.

In reviewing the film of Thursday’s 36-16 loss, McCarthy said one of the key fundamentals that stood out as lacking was the defense’s tackling.

“What jumps off the page at you is tackling. We had way too many missed tackles,” he said. “It’s a fundamental we practice every day and it did not carry over to the field.”

Footwork was the primary problem. McCarthy also said the defensive calls were not always relayed in a timely fashion due to some of Seattle’s late substitutions, and those are issues the coaching staff will focus on correcting.

“It’s not a one-game season,” McCarthy said. “We’re not going to sit here and dwell on it.” has posted a full report from McCarthy’s press conference.
