News now! Rookie WR Davante Adams makes a splash
Posted by on September 15, 2014 – 4:25 pmGREEN BAY — The Packers may have found another offensive weapon on Sunday, as rookie receiver Davante Adams recorded five catches for 50 yards in his first extensive NFL action.
“I thought Davante really stepped up,” Head Coach Mike McCarthy said on Monday in his day-after press conference. “You talk about a young man taking advantage of his opportunities — he made clutch catches, was strong after the catch. I thought he had a good day.”
Adams moved into the No. 3 receiver spot against the Jets after Jarrett Boykin dropped a pass over the middle in the red zone. Adams was a second-round draft pick out of Fresno State, and McCarthy said it didn’t take long to realize he has a potentially bright NFL future.
“I think he showed right away in training camp that he belongs, and that’s something you always look for,” McCarthy said. “Aaron Rodgers has a phrase, … there’s a ‘moment’ every player goes through when you know you belong here, and I think he had that early. It’s the normal progression of a young guy to get in tune with the quarterbacks … I thought he got better from Week 1 to Week 2.”
On the injury front, CB Micah Hyde’s knee injury does not appear to be serious. McCarthy said he expects Hyde to be fine. LB Andy Mulumba’s knee injury is “significant,” however.
