140918-news-now-mccarthy-300GREEN BAY–It’s NFC North time for the Packers.

“The way they’re coached and the players they have, it’s obvious they’re a talented team. I just think they’re an excellent team,” Packers Coach Mike McCarthy said of the Detroit Lions. “Our division is a heavyweight division. We approach Chicago and Minnesota the same way. This is a heckuva team we’re playing in their home.”

It’s the opening game of the division season, and the winner will take the early lead start toward the division crown.

“You’re always aware of where he is,” McCarthy said of Lions star receiver Calvin Johnson. “It’s important for our guys, particularly our corners, to play their technique. You can’t let players like Calvin take you out of your technique.”

Tackle Bryan Bulaga (knee) and cornerback Casey Hayward (glute) were limited in practice on Thursday. Safety Micah Hyde (knee) was a full participant and linebacker Brad Jones (quad) did not participate and is likely to miss his second consecutive game.
