GREEN BAY–The Packers were cruising to victory when the fourth quarter began at Lambeau Field on Sunday. They were leading the Panthers, 38-3.
Trailing 28-3 to start the second half. the Panthers took the second half kickoff and began to move the ball. Two first downs moved the ball to midfield. On fourth-and-1, however, the Packers held and Carolina’s woes continued.
Rodgers hit Cobb with a wide receiver screen type of play. Cobb broke a tackle and went for 33 yards to the Carolina 21. The Packers scored on the next play when Rodgers found Davante Adams wide open in the middle of the field. With 10:20 left in the third quarter, the Packers were coasting, 35-3, to a 5-2 record and possible sole possession of first place in the NFC North.
The Packers turned to the run in an attempt to shorten the game on their next possession. Casey Hayward added insult to injury when he intercepted a Cam Newton pass and returned it to the Carolina 49 with 2:18 to play in the third quarter.
Eddie Lacy replaced James Starks, who had his ankle taped along the sideline, and Lacy rushed for a first down in a play that drew a personal foul that disqualified Carolina star linebacker Luke Kuechly from the game.
Mason Crosby added a 34-yard field goal with :08 to play.
