141114-news-now-mccarthy-300GREEN BAY — Packers TE Brandon Bostick, who caught his first TD pass of the season last week, has been ruled out of Sunday’s game with a hip injury, but Head Coach Mike McCarthy suggested he might be able to come back as soon as next week.

“I think his work Tuesday will probably be the biggest indicator,” McCarthy said on Friday. “It’s not long-term. It’s not a big injury.”

Bostick’s TD came on fourth-and-goal early in the Bears game and was the Packers’ first score of the night. It was his second career touchdown. The young tight end continues to have trouble with injuries, though, having missed the tail end of last season with a foot injury and then some time early this season with a leg injury.

Elsewhere on the injury report, reserve LB Jayrone Elliott has also been ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Starting guards Josh Sitton (toe) and T.J. Lang (ankle) are probable and expected to play despite missing most or all of practice for the second straight week.

“They’re going through rehab today, doing all the light work,” McCarthy said. “As far as what they can do tomorrow, probably next to nothing. I want to make sure the younger players get the reps.”

Playing without practicing is not ideal, but Sitton said it’s wait-and-see as to whether the lack of practice might eventually catch up to him and/or Lang.

“We’ll see. I didn’t do anything last week and went out and played well,” Sitton said. “Hopefully I can do it again this week, and if I can, I’ll just tell Mike that I’ll take the year off from practice.”

All kidding aside, Sitton’s toe is not an insignificant matter, but he’s feeling OK about the path that’s been chosen to handle it.

“I’ve realized it’s going to be something I’m going to deal with all year,” he said. “It’s not as painful as it was last week or the week before, but it’s something that’s not going to go away. I know that and I’m cool with that.”
