GREEN BAY — The Packers were down a few regulars on defense in practice on Thursday, as cornerback Sam Shields (concussion) and defensive linemen Mike Daniels (back) and Josh Boyd (knee) were all held out.
Mike McCarthy had no update on Shields other than to say he’s going through the concussion protocol. He labeled Daniels’ situation “day to day.”
“We’ll see how he is tomorrow,” McCarthy said.
The potential absence of Daniels and Boyd for Monday night’s game against the Falcons would be a blow to the Packers’ run defense, which has made strides since the bye week. Steven Jackson is Atlanta’s primary ball carrier.
“We’ll have to do a heck of a job this week,” McCarthy said of the run defense. “They ran the ball very well last week against Arizona, against a very good defense.”
The Falcons are coming off a big win over the Cardinals last week, keeping them tied for first place in the NFC South despite a sub-.500 record (5-7).
