GREEN BAY — The Packers have blown it open with a 24-point second quarter, taking a 31-7 lead over the Falcons into intermission on Monday night at Lambeau Field.

The Packers took the lead on the first play of the quarter, as RB Eddie Lacy capped a 13-play, 80-yard drive with a 1-yard TD run off the left side.

Green Bay got the ball right back after the defense got a three-and-out, despite jumping offside and allowing Atlanta to start with first-and-5. On third-and-1, CB Tramon Williams nearly intercepted a pass intended for WR Roddy White, knocking it away, and the Falcons had to punt.

The Packers tacked on a field goal to make it 17-7. RB James Starks began the drive with a 21-yard run and added a 12-yard reception to get the ball across midfield. Lacy’s 13-yard gain on a checkdown pass, on which he juked, dodged and spun around multiple Falcons defenders gave the Packers a first down on the Falcons’ 21, but the drive stalled there. K Mason Crosby was good from 38 yards out.

It didn’t take long for the Packers to get the ball back. One play after the Falcons began their drive with a 25-yard completion to WR Julio Jones, QB Matt Ryan was intercepted by S Morgan Burnett along the sideline on a pass intended for WR Devin Hester.

Burnett returned it 32 yards to the Atlanta 15, and the Packers found the end zone. A short pass to WR Davante Adams followed by a 9-yard scramble by QB Aaron Rodgers made it first-and-goal on the 1. Rodgers than hit Lacy with a quick flip pass over the middle for the TD, making it 24-7 with 4:20 left in the half.

The Packers added one more score before halftime. After DT Letroy Guion nearly intercepted Ryan on a ball he tipped himself, the Falcons had to punt. The Packers got a 14-yard reception by Starks and an 18-yarder by Cobb for a first down at the Atlanta 21 at the two-minute warning. After a 6-yard pass to WR Jordy Nelson made it goal-to-go from the 10, Rodgers hit Nelson for the TD on third down, giving the Packers a 31-7 lead.

The Falcons came back with a 30-yard pass to Jones and a 15-yard scramble by Ryan to get the ball to the Green Bay 35. But K Matt Bryant’s 53-yard FG try on the final play of the half was blocked by LB Brad Jones.

Rodgers finished the first half 18-of-25 for 190 yards with two TDs. Lacy and Starks combined for 133 yards from scrimmage (87 rush, 46 receiving) with three scores (two rush, one receiving).
