151014-rivers-650GREEN BAY — The Chargers are on a short week and coming off a heartbreaking loss, but Mike McCarthy’s focus is on the Chargers’ impressive rankings and the team’s veteran quarterback.

“Philip Rivers is an outstanding quarterback, and his command at the line of scrimmage … he does a good job of getting the ball to his key people. I’m very impressed with their receiving corps. This is a big challenge. There’s a reason they’re No. 3 in the league. I think their defense is an excellent complement to their offense,” McCarthy said of the Packers’ opponent this week.

The Chargers are No. 3 in the league in overall offense; No. 2 in pass offense.

“They have a high-powered offense and they have a defense that gets off the field on third down,” McCarthy said.

Green Bay’s bye week follows Sunday’s game against the Chargers, but McCarthy didn’t want to hear about it.

“We’re all aware of the bye week, but I don’t want to hear about the bye week and plane reservations and that nonsense,” McCarthy said.
