151026-news-now-300GREEN BAY — Head Coach Mike McCarthy believes his Packers team is coming back from its bye week healthier, and he’s going to use Monday’s practice to put the pads on and stress the fundamentals.

“We have a foundation of a good six weeks to build off of here,” McCarthy said on Monday, the team’s first day back from a week off. “We’re going to pad ’em up and get after it, and have a brisk, hard practice.

“You get better drill work when you have pads on than when you don’t.”

McCarthy said the growing injury report in the last couple of weeks leading up to the bye affected the practice regimen, so he wants to focus on the basics before game-planning more specifically for Denver beginning on Wednesday.

He expects a healthier team after a week of rest. He didn’t get into many specifics, but he did say WR Davante Adams (ankle) and S Morgan Burnett (calf), who both have played sparingly this year, should be able to practice.

“Both Morgan and Davante had a chance to practice some during the San Diego week, so after another week off, they should feel good,” McCarthy said.

“Today we’ll get to see guys move around. That’s another reason we need to be in pads.”

NT B.J. Raji also missed the Packers’ last game, while several players have been playing banged up, including WRs James Jones (hamstring) and Randall Cobb (shoulder), RB Eddie Lacy (ankle), G T.J. Lang (knee) and T Bryan Bulaga (knee), among others.

The Packers are getting ready to face another unbeaten team in the Broncos, who are also coming off of their bye week. The game will be in prime time on Sunday night in Denver.

“I think these are the biggest challenges as far as going on the road, playing an undefeated football team with a great defense, definitely a Hall of Fame quarterback, all those things,” McCarthy said. “These are the games you really love to play in.”
