“Nothing has changed. It’s obviously different than other injuries. Until he comes through the protocol, it’s where we are,” McCarthy said of Shields, who’s missed the last three games.
Meanwhile, left tackle David Bakhtiari is likely headed for an update of his ankle injury on Saturday.
“Tomorrow he’s projected to do some work,” McCarthy added.
The Packers play at Washington in a wild-card round playoff game on Sunday.
“It’s playoff football. We’re going about our business as we normally do. But the fact of the matter is we understand what these games mean. We’re excited about the opportunity. We’re not focused on flipping a switch. We’re focused on what’ we’re doing,” McCarthy said.
Ball security will be a major focus.
“You can’t win games with our giveaways the last three weeks. We showed their takeaways to the offense. You see it repeatedly on third down; you see it in the red zone. Their defense has been impressive on video,” McCarthy said.
