Packers stick to defense, pick Iowa DL
Posted by on April 28, 2012 – 12:53 pmThe focus on defense continued into the third day of the draft for the Packers on Saturday, as they made Iowa defensive lineman Mike Daniels their first pick of the day, in what was to be the first of consecutive picks in the fourth round for the Packers.
At 6-0, 291, Daniels is undersized, but he made opened eyes with a strong Insight Bowl performance against Oklahoma. He had two sacks and three tackles for loss in that game.
Daniels was selected with the 132nd overall pick.
Daniels led the Hawkeyes in sacks and tackles for loss each of the last two seasons. He had 24 1/2 tackles for loss and 13 sacks combined in 2010 and 2011. He started 21 games over those two seasons, earning second-team All-Big Ten honors from multiple publications last year.
A native of New Jersey, Daniels was a running back and defensive lineman in high school.
